Chris Klieman may have missed out on Jayshawn Ross when the standout linebacker chose Alabama over Kansas State out of Liberty North High School, but the Wildcats have landed their man at last. A 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive weapon, committed to K-State transferring after his freshman season with the Crimson Tide.
The addition of top defending star is a big win for the Wildcats’ defense. Known for his versatility, He can excel in a hybrid role, lining up as both a linebacker and a pass-rushing defensive end. K-State defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman is sure to capitalize on Ross’ unique skill set, deploying him in various positions to disrupt opposing offenses.
Although Ross didn’t see playing time at Alabama this past season, K-State’s coaching staff never forgot the potential they saw in him as a high school recruit. A former four-star prospect, Ross was a priority target during his initial recruitment, and the Wildcats wasted no time pursuing him once he entered the transfer portal.
This signing is another example of Klieman’s strategic use of the transfer portal to strengthen the Wildcats. Ross brings the kind of talent and upside that could make an immediate impact on the field as K-State looks to build on its recent success in the Big 12.
Kansas State fans can look forward to seeing Ross’ dynamic defensive abilities in action soon, as he embarks on the next chapter of his football journey in Manhattan.
