After another heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, the Buffalo Bills are left to grapple with disappointment as they head into a long offseason. While it’s all celebrations in Kansas City, Buffalo fans are weighed down by frustration and despair.
With the NFL offseason in full swing, the Bills have already started reshaping their roster and coaching staff. One coach departed earlier this week, and more changes are anticipated in the near future.
This time of year also marks the period when the Bills hand out reserve/futures contracts to players from their practice squad. While they’ve extended deals to several individuals, the team also chose to part ways with six players shortly after the heartbreaking defeat. The Chiefs continue to be the team that shatters Buffalo’s hopes.
The Bills initially signed seven players to reserve/futures contracts and have since added four more. On the flip side, they chose not to renew contracts for six players: DT Eli Ankou, C/G Will Clapp, S Kareem Jackson, DE Kingsley Jonathan, LB Tyreek Maddox-Williams, and DE Casey Toohill.
In addition, veteran safety Micah Hyde announced his retirement. None of these players were expected to have a significant impact on the team moving forward. It’s standard for NFL teams to part ways with several practice squad members, and the Chiefs will likely follow suit after the Super Bowl.
Since Kansas City is still in the hunt, their front office and coaching staff have some time before making those decisions. A pivotal offseason awaits, with key free agents like G Trey Smith and MLB Nick Bolton potentially on the move. The Chiefs’ roster will undoubtedly look different in 2025, but they have one more game together before facing those tough choices.
Kansas City enters the Super Bowl as a 1.5-point favorite over the Philadelphia Eagles, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Meanwhile, the Bills will be watching from home—perhaps hoping the Chiefs give them another reason to be frustrated.
