Deuce Knight, a five-star quarterback who transferred from Notre Dame, was likely the most high-profile signee in Auburn’s 2025 class.
Knight, who attended George County High School in Mississippi, transferred to Auburn on October 2, and the Tigers held off an Ole Miss bid to keep the top signal caller in their class.
He enrolled at Auburn early, so he was already on campus when the spring semester started in January. That allowed head coach Hugh Freeze to spend some time with him, and he had positive things to say about Knight when he spoke with media at Senior Bowl practice on Wednesday.
“Man, the maturity he possesses. Even after we recruited him, I wasn’t as aware of Knight,” Freeze admitted. “He spends every day in there studying. And he does not want to wait to be great. He’s working hard today to absorb every bit of knowledge he can.”
Knight was one of four new quarterbacks Auburn signed for the 2025 season, including Jackson Arnold, Ashton Daniels, and Tanner Bailey. While Arnold is the early favorite to start, Freeze praised Daniels, who joined Auburn after starting two seasons at Stanford.
Unlike the others, Daniels will not join the team until the summer.
He passed for 3,947 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions in two seasons as a starter, but Freeze noted that he will be surrounded by more skill at Auburn.
“I don’t want to say this has a slap toward anyone, but he didn’t have a lot around him, and he still produced significant, significant yards,” Freeze observed.
Freeze was especially impressed about Daniels’ running skills. Daniels rushed for 669 yards and three touchdowns in his final season at Stanford, demonstrating dual threat ability that complements Auburn’s scheme. Freeze lauded Daniels’ mental approach as well as the physical tools he brought with him from Stanford.
“He’s going to come in with a mentality, and he’s got, I mean, his knowledge of the game, his IQ is extremely high,” Freeze told ESPN.
