JUST IN: New York Yankees Confirm Trade for A $25 Million All-Star Third Baseman

With spring training fast approaching, the New York Yankees find themselves in desperation mode to solidify their infield. Both second and third base remain areas of concern, and the urgency to make a move is growing by the day. While the possibility of landing Alex Bregman hasn’t been entirely ruled out, the Yankees are increasingly shifting their focus to another All-Star third baseman: Eugenio Suárez.

Suárez, who posted a .256 average with 30 home runs and 101 RBIs during the 2024 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, would be a game-changer for the Yankees. Known for his power at the plate and his consistency in driving in runs, Suárez has notched at least 20 home runs and 75 RBIs in each of the past four seasons while playing for three different teams. His defensive contributions in 2024 were equally impressive, ranking in the 82nd percentile in range and outs above average, according to Baseball Savant. Even at 33 years old, Suárez remains one of the league’s most reliable third basemen.

A potential trade to acquire Suárez could look like this:

New York Yankees Receive:

  • 3B Eugenio Suárez

Arizona Diamondbacks Receive:

  • RP Mark Leiter Jr.
  • RHP Clayton Beeter (Yankees’ No. 19 prospect in 2024)

For the Yankees, Suárez would immediately slot in as the everyday third baseman, stabilizing a position in need of a dependable presence. His addition would also allow Jazz Chisholm Jr. and D.J. LeMahieu to share duties at second base. The Yankees would not only gain a power-hitting infielder but also a defensive anchor at the hot corner. While Suárez is set to earn $15 million in 2025 through a club option, the Yankees could explore a short-term extension to keep him in pinstripes.

For the Diamondbacks, the deal would provide bullpen depth and a developmental arm. Mark Leiter Jr., despite a slightly down year with a 4.50 ERA in 2024, offers the potential for a bounce-back season and could become a key late-inning reliever for Arizona. Meanwhile, Clayton Beeter, who excelled in Triple-A last year with a 2.25 ERA across 10 games, would give the Diamondbacks a promising rotation option for the future.

As the Yankees face mounting pressure to strengthen their infield, Suárez could be the missing piece to help them contend in 2025. With his combination of power, defense, and veteran experience, he’s a move the Bronx Bombers can’t afford to overlook.
