Just In: South Carolina Gamecocks to land commitment for highly talented QB

South Carolina has been making strong efforts to recruit quarterback Brady Smigiel from Newbury Park, California. Over the past few weeks, USC has gone from not being involved with Smigiel to becoming a major contender in his recruitment. Head coach Shane Beamer made the first in-person contact with Smigiel on January 17, while he was still committed to Florida State, but Smigiel has since decommitted.

On Monday, USC offensive coordinator Mike Shula visited Smigiel, spending over two hours with him, reviewing film, and discussing Smigiel’s playing style. Smigiel was impressed with the visit and is building a strong connection with the Gamecocks’ coaching staff.

The next step in the process is for Smigiel to visit South Carolina during spring practice in late March to observe the team and interact with the quarterbacks. Coach Smigiel emphasized how important it is that South Carolina is showing Smigiel he is a priority. In addition to USC, the family plans visits to Washington, Auburn, and possibly Michigan, with a decision likely coming after these visits.

While South Carolina has shown significant interest in Smigiel, they are also recruiting other quarterbacks, like Jared Davis from Nashville, who will visit in June. Coach Smigiel noted that, in quarterback recruitment, it’s essential not to focus on just one player, and he appreciates the transparency from South Carolina’s coaching staff during this process.
