BLOCKBUSTER: Yankees Acquires Versatile Gold Glove Infielder to $60 Million Deal

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman acknowledges the team’s need for an infielder, though it’s unclear whether that addition will be a second or third baseman. While the Yankees have reportedly pursued top third basemen like Alex Bregman and Nolan Arenado, there’s also a strong case for targeting a Gold Glove second baseman who could fit their needs. Top star who batted .267 with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs for the Colorado Rockies in 2024, might be the solution.

His batting average was the second-highest of his career, trailing only his .284 mark in 2021. Known for his defensive prowess, Rodgers won a Gold Glove at second base in 2021. While primarily a defense-first player, he’s capable of making contact at the plate. According to Baseball Savant, his expected home runs in 2024 (12.7) closely aligned with his actual total, reflecting strong hitting metrics like launch angle and exit velocity.

Rodgers is projected to sign a five-year contract valued at just over $56 million, with the potential to reach $60 million, which would bring his average annual value to $12 million. Adding Rodgers would provide the Yankees with a reliable defender at second base, and if he can maintain a batting average above .250 while slightly improving his RBI count, the investment would be well worth it.
