Darko Churlinov of Burnley made his long-awaited comeback to competitive action over the weekend.
On Saturday, the winger played 45 minutes for North Macedonia, who were defeated 2-0 by Ukraine in their Euro 2024 qualifier.
It was the 23-year-old’s first appearance in six months, having previously appeared for the Clarets in an April goalless draw at Reading.
Churlinov’s lack of playing time is due to a significant health scare over the summer, when he was hospitalized with suspected blood poisoning.
However, the Burnley player is already back in first-team training and will be looking to force his way back into Vincent Kompany’s man.
Churlinov, who could potentially play for North Macedonia against Armenia on Tuesday night, has been added to Burnley’s 25-man Premier League squad after being left out for Samuel Bastien.
However, following Bastien’s loan move to Turkey, Churlinov, who has yet to appear in a match this season, was recruited back in to fill the final position.
Kompany discussed Churlinov’s quest to regain full health at the end of August.
“It’s really, really positive,” he stated.
“We expected him to be out for a long time, but his recovery has been nothing short of miraculous.”
“I can’t give you a time frame just yet, but if things continue to progress as they are, he’ll be back to full fitness.”
“Hopefully by the time you ask the same question next month I can change my answer.”
