BREAKING: Bills complete the signing of another top QB to replace Josh Allen after…

Following their gut-wrenching 32-29 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, marking their fourth playoff loss to Kansas City in the past five years, the Buffalo Bills quickly shifted focus to their offseason plans.

On Wednesday, the team announced they had re-signed quarterback Shane Buechele to a one-year deal via their official X (formerly Twitter) account. The 27-year-old Buechele spent the 2024 season on injured reserve after suffering a neck injury during the preseason. Prior to that, he was part of the Bills’ practice squad in 2023. Buechele entered the NFL in 2021 as an undrafted free agent with the Chiefs. He spent two seasons with Kansas City, earning a Super Bowl LIV ring, although he didn’t play in the game. Buechele was waived by the Chiefs in 2023, and soon after joined Buffalo’s practice squad before signing a reserve/future contract.

Although Buechele hasn’t seen regular-season action in the NFL, his college career was impressive. He passed for 11,660 yards, 87 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions while completing 63.1% of his passes during his time at Texas and SMU. He also rushed for 478 yards and eight touchdowns across 56 games. His standout 2019 season at SMU, where he threw for 3,929 yards and 34 touchdowns, kept him on the radar of NFL teams.

Bills re-sign QB Shane Buechele, sign TE Zach Davidson to a reserve/future contract

The Bills are strengthening their quarterback depth, knowing that Josh Allen can only do so much on his own. Allen played at an MVP level in the AFC Championship Game, throwing for 237 yards with a 65% completion rate (22/34) and two touchdowns. Despite his best efforts, the Bills are still in pursuit of their first Super Bowl appearance.

In addition to re-signing Buechele, the Bills also signed tight end Zach Davidson to a reserve/future contract. Davidson spent last season on the practice squad but now has the opportunity to compete for a roster spot during the offseason and training camp.
