MAJOR BREAKING: Washington football lands commitment for ‘intriguing’ QB via transfer portal

Washington football is making an interesting move by adding a quarterback from the transfer portal as the Huskies begin their second year in the Big Ten conference. Head coach Jedd Fisch is continuing his efforts to rebuild the program after a challenging first season. Washington finished 2024 with a 6-7 record, including a 4-5 mark in conference play.

Quarterback play was one of the team’s weaknesses last year, but with sophomore Desmond Williams Jr. slated to start in 2025, the Huskies have bolstered their depth at the position. According to On3sports’ National Recruiting/Transfer Portal Reporter Hayes Fawcett, Tulane transfer QB Kai Horton has committed to Washington. The 6’4″, 220-pound quarterback has one year of eligibility remaining.

Although Horton hasn’t posted impressive stats at Tulane, his experience will be valuable for a Washington team looking to establish a new identity under Fisch. Last year was tough as Fisch worked to rebuild the roster, but with heightened expectations in year two, Washington aims to return to prominence.

The Huskies have enjoyed success in recent years, making New Year’s Six bowl games four times in the past nine seasons, including two appearances in the College Football Playoff. Even with the transition to the Big Ten, the program’s standards remain high, especially with the new twelve-team playoff system, where Washington will be aiming for a spot annually.

On a positive note, Fisch has brought in the 18th-ranked recruiting class in the country and several transfers from established programs who should make an immediate impact. Washington will need these additions to make strides in 2025, especially with a challenging schedule ahead.

The Huskies will face elite Big Ten teams like Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon, as well as a tough Illinois team expected to be in the top 15. While the competition is fierce, these games provide ample opportunity for the program to show improvement.

While Horton may not be the starting quarterback, his arrival strengthens a position Washington is looking to improve. If called upon to play, Horton will be ready to step up and contribute.
