BREAKING: Mariners Complete the Signing of Another Top Star pitcher

Ask baseball fans to describe who comes to mind when they hear the name “Luis Castillo.”

Most will defer to the Seattle Mariners pitcher, who was an All-Star in 2019, 2022, and 2023 and a Cy Young candidate in the most recent of those years. Older fans may remember the second baseman, who was a three-time All-Star with the Florida Marlins and a key member of their 2003 World Series team.

There is, however, a third Luis Castillo who has played major league baseball. That would be another pitcher that played three games for the Detroit Tigers in 2022.

On Tuesday, after two seasons in Japan, the pitcher allegedly signed with… the Mariners! According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Seattle has cornered the market on Luis Castillos.

As Heyman points out, the new Castillo’s middle name is Felipe, making him easily distinguishable from Luis Miguel Castillo. The Dominican pitchers’ hometowns of Fantio and Bani are two and a half hours away by automobile.

Baseball Reference lists 21 different Luis Castillos across the big and minor leagues.

The lesson of the story: if you want to ensure your child plays major league baseball, there’s only one choice for a name.
