UW Football: Commitment!! Top talented star confirms transfer to UW for 2025 season

Washington has had a strong lineup of talents in recent years, including players like Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan, Ja’Lynn Polk, Giles Jackson, and Denzel Boston.

Now, the Huskies are hoping that this talent can add his name to that list.

The 6-foot, 189-pound wide receiver from Penn State, announced on social media that he will transfer to Washington for the 2025 season. He has one year of eligibility left after spending the last three seasons with the Nittany Lions.

His addition brings valuable experience to a young Washington wide receiver group, which recently saw the unexpected departure of former five-star prospect Johntay Cook II on January 14.

During the 2024 season, Evans recorded 21 receptions for 415 yards and five touchdowns as Penn State made it to the College Football Playoff semifinals. He played in 16 games, starting six, before entering the transfer portal after the Nittany Lions’ 27-24 loss to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. Over his three seasons at Penn State, Evans caught 30 passes for 564 yards and seven touchdowns.

Originally from Killeen, Texas, was a three-star prospect according to 247Sports after playing both cornerback and quarterback at Shoemaker High. He was ranked as the No. 77 wide receiver and No. 78 player in Texas in the 2022 recruiting cycle and chose Penn State over offers from schools like Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Arkansas, Baylor, and others.

In his first season in 2022, Evans played in 13 games, then appeared in nine games during his sophomore year. He became a key player for Penn State’s offense in 2024, ranking third on the team in receiving yards behind tight end Tyler Warren and wide receiver Harrison Wallace III. Evans averaged 19.8 yards per catch, leading the team. However, his opportunities were limited due to Penn State’s offensive system, with only 38 targets in 2024—14 fewer than running back Nicholas Singleton. Evans was mainly used as a deep threat, with an average depth of 20.8 yards per target. His 59-yard touchdown reception against Kent State was the longest by a Penn State wide receiver in 2024, and he caught 80% of his contested catches, the highest among his teammates with more than two attempts.

At Washington, Evans will join a wide receiver group that needs to replace two of its three starters, as both Giles Jackson and Jeremiah Hunter exhausted their eligibility after the Sun Bowl. Evans could potentially fill the role of Hunter, who caught 36 passes for 490 yards and one touchdown in his lone season at UW. Though Evans is two inches shorter and around 20 pounds lighter than Hunter, his experience as an outside receiver—Evans spent only 25% of his snaps in the slot—could give him the advantage over sophomore Rashid Williams, who had 11 catches for 138 yards and one touchdown in 2024.

Washington also signed several promising wideouts in its 2025 recruiting class, including Deji Ajose, Marcus Harris, Chris Lawson, Dezmen Roebuck, and Raiden Vines-Bright. Harris, Lawson, and Vines-Bright, all four-star recruits, have already enrolled at UW for the winter quarter.
