BREAKING NEWS: Rangers Acquires Another Top Gifted Star In A Major Trade Solidifying Their Bullpen

The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning completed an AHL-level trade. The Rangers traded Wolf Pack forward Ryder Korczak to Tampa in exchange for forward top gifted star.

Ryder Korczak, 22, was selected by the Rangers in the third round (#75 overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. This season, he has recorded 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) and a +4 rating over 35 games. From 2022 to 2025, Korczak appeared in 107 regular-season games for the Wolf Pack, amassing 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists). He also contributed a goal and an assist during 10 Calder Cup Playoff games last year.

Top star on the other hand, has appeared in 120 career AHL games with the Syracuse Crunch since being selected by Tampa Bay in the third round (#86 overall) of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Over that time, he has accumulated 48 points (25 goals, 23 assists). This season, Edmonds has recorded one goal and four assists in 26 games. He is set to turn 24 in two days.

Korczak struggled to secure a consistent spot in the lineup this season and lacked a clearly defined role. While his offensive production was modest, he stood out as a reliable two-way player and one of Hartford’s stronger defensive forwards. In terms of plus/minus—a limited but key defensive metric in the AHL—Korczak ranked third among forwards, behind only Alex Belzile (+7) and Blade Jenkins (+5).

This trade can best be described as a fresh start for two players in need of one. Korczak will have the opportunity to establish a more defined role in Syracuse, while Edmonds gets a chance to regain his scoring touch in Hartford. Although Edmonds won’t suit up against Rochester tonight, he is expected to be a valuable option for the Wolf Pack going forward.
