Raiders Confirms Top Coaching Candidate ‘In The Lead’ For Raiders’ Job

The Las Vegas Raiders have reached the playoffs only twice since 2002, and after finishing with a 4-13 record in 2024, they are seeking a head coach who can help them regain competitiveness. They had hoped to hire Ben Johnson, the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, but he chose to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears instead. Currently, two names are generating significant interest from the Raiders for the position: Pete Carroll, the former Seattle Seahawks head coach, and Steve Spagnuolo, the Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator. An insider claims one of the candidates may have a slight advantage.

Carroll boasts an impressive coaching career at both the professional and collegiate levels, most notably serving as the Seattle Seahawks’ head coach from 2010 to 2023. He quickly transformed the team into a dominant force, particularly on defense, leading the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory in 2013 and nearly repeating the success the following year.

Spagnuolo, on the other hand, is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s top defensive coordinators. His defensive strategies, especially in crucial games, have been instrumental in the Kansas City Chiefs securing three championships in the past five years, including the last two Super Bowl titles.

While the Raiders have standout players like tight end Brock Bowers and pass rusher Maxx Crosby, they still face significant roster gaps, especially at quarterback, where they’ve struggled to find a true franchise player for decades. They haven’t won a playoff game since their Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002.
