BREAKING: Virginia Tech football officially announce the signing of a new head coach

The Virginia Tech Hokies finally got a new coach, and he is a familiar face. He is officially named the new strength coach.  A native of Goodview, Virginia, he played high school football at Staunton River before starring as a fullback for Frank Beamer’s Hokies from 1998 to 2001.

The Buffalo Bills selected Ferguson in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He was a member of four Virginia Tech bowl teams and started for the 1999 national championship squad.

After his playing career ended, Ferguson returned to Virginia Tech to work on the strength and conditioning staff for his former coach, the famous Mike Gentry.

Gentry is a member of the United States Strength & Conditioning Coaches Hall of Fame.

Ferguson spent 13 years on Gentry’s staff before leaving in 2018. He returned in 2022 as Tech’s associate director of strength and conditioning.

Gentry sent the following comment via Hokie Sports.

“Jarrett Ferguson represents the best of Virginia Tech Athletics,” he remarked. “He was a standout player on championship football teams who accomplished his achievements the old-fashioned manner. He deserved it. Jarrett is a man of respect and character who recognizes the importance of selfless hard work. Virginia Tech grew stronger today.”

Congratulations, Jarrett Ferguson.
