JUST IN: Seahawks Acquires Another Top Key-star In A Major Blockbuster Trade

With a solid amount of cap space heading into the 2025 offseason, the LA Chargers are widely expected to focus on strengthening their offense.

While addressing the interior offensive line may be their top priority, upgrading offensive skill positions will also be a significant storyline. Wide receiver Josh Palmer is set to hit free agency, leaving the team with only a few key targets under contract, including Will Dissly, Quentin Johnston, and Ladd McConkey.

With considerable cap space available for the 2025 offseason, many anticipate the LA Chargers will focus on enhancing their offense.

While shoring up the interior offensive line is likely a top priority, the acquisition of offensive skill players will also be a major storyline. Wide receiver Josh Palmer is set to enter free agency, leaving the Chargers with only a few key pass-catchers under contract: Will Dissly, Quentin Johnston, and Ladd McConkey.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, one potential addition could come via trade. The NFL insider has identified Seattle Seahawks wideout DK Metcalf as a possible target for the Chargers this offseason.

Jeremy Fowler links Seahawks’ DK Metcalf to Chargers

DK Metcalf is due for a new contract after the 2025 season, as his current deal contains no guaranteed salary beyond that point, making him a free agent next year. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerging as a key player in Seattle’s offense, Metcalf’s targets saw a decline last season, adding to speculation about his future with the Seahawks.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler highlighted a potential connection between Metcalf and Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. An anonymous NFL coordinator shared this insight with Fowler about the pairing:

“The Seahawks could still get solid value for DK Metcalf, and he’d form a strong inside-out pairing with Ladd McConkey. A connection between [Justin] Herbert and Metcalf would be terrifying for defenses. I expect [Los Angeles] to make significant moves to support their quarterback.”

One potential factor not explicitly mentioned in Fowler’s analysis is the Chargers’ wide receivers coach, Sanjay Lal. Lal previously spent three seasons on the Seahawks’ staff, during which Metcalf surpassed 1,000 receiving yards each year and totaled 24 touchdowns. Their prior success together could make Los Angeles an appealing landing spot for Metcalf.

It remains uncertain, however, whether the Joe Hortiz-Jim Harbaugh leadership would commit to a large contract for a wide receiver acquired via trade. The sample size of their decisions is too small to draw definitive conclusions about their strategy. Nevertheless, the Chargers clearly need to enhance their wide receiver group, and adding a player of Metcalf’s caliber would be a significant step in that direction.

The limitations of the Chargers’ wide receiver room were evident in their playoff loss to Houston, underscoring the need for upgrades. As ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested, bringing DK Metcalf to Los Angeles—whether as a rental or on a contract extension—would be a significant first step toward providing Justin Herbert with the support he needs. Metcalf’s dynamic playmaking ability could help transform the offense and address one of the team’s most glaring weaknesses heading into 2025.
