Major Setback: Orioles Loses Reigning AL Rookie Of The Year To a Major Devastating Injury as 2025 Season Looms

The Baltimore Orioles will kick off their 2025 season without one of their biggest stars. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year and a key piece of Baltimore’s lineup, will begin the year on the injured list after suffering a mild right intercostal strain.

GM Mike Elias shared an optimistic update, hoping his absence is “measured in days instead of weeks,” but the shortstop will officially miss Opening Day showdown against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Top star tweaked his side during a Feb. 27 spring training game, exiting after just one inning. The power-hitting shortstop is coming off a stellar 2023 campaign, slashing .281 with 37 home runs, 92 RBIs, and earning his first All-Star nod.

Meanwhile, across the league, Cleveland’s Tyler Freeman is hoping to bounce back after a tough 2024 season. The former second-round pick struggled at the plate, hitting .209 with seven homers and 32 RBIs over 118 games, but he’ll get a fresh start as the Guardians open their season Thursday in Kansas City.

As for the Rockies, they’ll begin their 2025 journey on Friday, heading to Tampa Bay to battle the Rays. With rosters set and Opening Day just around the corner, baseball fans have plenty to watch as the new season unfolds.
