Breaking News: Done Deal!! Rangers Officially Confirms Ground-breaking Deal For a Top Experienced All-star Defenseman

New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the club has signed defenseman to a three-year, entry-level contract. He will join the Hartford Wolf Pack on an amateur tryout (ATO) for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old blueliner registered two goals and 13 assists for 15 points across 37 games with Northeastern University (Hockey East) this past season, tying for fifth on the team in assists.

Over three seasons at Northeastern, the North Reading, Massachusetts native posted eight goals and 25 assists for 33 points in 105 games, while recording a plus-17 rating. The 6-foot-2, 192-pound defenseman appeared in 33 games during the 2023-24 season, leading all Northeastern defensemen with six goals and earning the team’s Unsung Hero award. As a freshman, he played in all 35 games, tallying 31 blocked shots, which tied for fifth-most on the roster.

 

 

Prior to his collegiate career, Dorrington skated for Des Moines in the USHL, where he collected 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) over 41 games and was recognized as a 2022 BioSteel All-American.

Dorrington was initially drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round (176th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. The Rangers acquired his rights on January 31, 2025.
