Before diving into the core of their offseason programs, the Buffalo Bills have a few formalities to wrap up ahead of this summer’s training camp. One key task is finalizing the coaching staff for the upcoming season. While most of the staff remains intact, a few notable changes are worth discussing.
At the top, there’s no shake-up. Sean McDermott returns as head coach, continuing his quest to push the Bills over the hump after leading the team to its second AFC Championship game under his tenure.
On offense, Joe Brady is set to begin his second full season as the offensive coordinator, working alongside quarterback Josh Allen. Last season, the Bills’ offense broke franchise records and ranked among the league’s best, though consistency became a concern at times — something they may look to address this year.
Defensively, Bobby Babich also enters his second season as the defensive coordinator. His first year was marked by ups and downs, particularly with postseason struggles and run defense issues. This season will be a chance for Babich to show growth in those areas.
One of the most significant coaching changes comes on special teams, with Chris Tabor taking over as coordinator. Special teams have been a weak spot in recent years, highlighted by a kickoff return touchdown allowed in Week 1 and a crucial blocked punt against the Los Angeles Rams. The unit lacked discipline in key moments, making this change a potential turning point.
Another area of adjustment is within the strength and conditioning department. During his end-of-season press conference, general manager Brandon Beane emphasized the importance of building a stronger team. In response, Will Greenberg was named head strength and conditioning coach, with Barry Rubin appointed as senior strength and conditioning coach. This follows an NFLPA survey where the Bills ranked 23rd in the league for strength coaches.
