It’s been a rollercoaster season for the Sacramento Kings. After aiming to rebound from a disappointing campaign with De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, and Mike Brown at the forefront, they now find themselves battling just to stay in the Play-In picture—and two of those three key figures are no longer around. Still, the Kings are actively working to bolster their roster.
In their latest move, Sacramento signed Terry Taylor to a 10-day contract. Taylor had been playing with the Stockton Kings, their G League affiliate, and has now earned a shot with the main squad. Even with this signing, Sacramento has just 14 active players, leaving them space to add at least one more (or possibly two if Taylor’s stint is short-lived).
Given the current situation, the Kings’ next step seems crystal clear. They should lock up top star with a standard contract.
The Kings have already shown a willingness to promote from within, pulling talent from their G League affiliate. Terry Taylor was excelling with Stockton before earning his shot with the main roster.
Now, with Sacramento potentially looking to fill their 15th roster spot ahead of the postseason, it makes perfect sense for them to turn to a familiar face—and that face should be Isaac Jones.
Jones has been on a two-way contract with Sacramento all season and has made several appearances with Stockton. In 11 G League games, he’s posted impressive numbers: 20.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 55.8% from the field and 27% from three.
More importantly, Jones has suited up for 31 regular-season games with the Kings this year. While many of his minutes have come in lopsided contests, he’s also contributed in meaningful stretches.
The 24-year-old rookie has been a valuable depth piece for Sacramento, especially with the team’s inconsistent big man rotation.

Upgrading Jones from a two-way to a standard contract would be a logical reward for his efforts this season. And even if the Kings decide to convert Taylor to a standard deal as well, there would still be room to elevate Jones.
Additionally, opening up Jones’ two-way slot would give Sacramento the flexibility to sign another developmental player. Given how steady Jones has been all year, making his promotion official seems like the obvious next step for the Kings.
