South Carolina’s newly recruited coach has become the highest-paid coach in women’s basketball after signing a $25.25 million contract extension, securing her position through the 2029-30 season. As reported by ESPN, the agreement includes an annual salary of $4 million, a $500,000 signing bonus, and a yearly $250,000 escalator.
“She is a once-in-a-generation coach who has made a tremendous impact on the University of South Carolina,” said athletic director Jeremiah Donati, according to ESPN. “She has elevated the sport of women’s basketball nationally and on campus, and I’m thrilled she will continue representing our University for many years.”
Since becoming the Gamecocks’ head coach in 2008, Staley has won three national championships, including an undefeated 38-0 season in 2024. Her teams have claimed eight SEC tournament titles and achieved a 165-15 conference record since 2013-14.
Previously earning $3.2 million this season, Staley’s pay was comparable to other top coaches like UConn’s Geno Auriemma ($3.34 million) and LSU’s Kim Mulkey ($3.25 million).
This season, Staley’s Gamecocks are off to another strong start with a 17-1 record, their only loss coming against UCLA in November. They also boast a 5-0 record in conference play.
“I’m honored to represent the University of South Carolina and grateful for its investment in women’s basketball,” Staley told ESPN. “Our success on the court reflects the commitment of the university, athletics department, and community, along with the collective efforts of the incredible people on our team.”
