Bills Confirms Super Deal For a Highly Sought-After Pass Rusher In Blockbuster

The Buffalo Bills’ most significant move in free agency was inking former Los Angeles Chargers pass-rusher Joey Bosa to a one-year contract to strengthen the defensive line alongside Gregory Rousseau.

However, a recent mock draft projects the Bills making an aggressive trade up to select a highly productive edge rusher who could be an ideal fit for their defensive scheme heading into the 2025 NFL season.

The Bills have taken several bold steps to strengthen their roster in hopes of finally breaking through the AFC and reaching their first Super Bowl in over three decades. One such move was signing former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller to a six-year, $120 million deal back in 2022.

However, with Miller now released this offseason, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic believes Buffalo still aims to boost its pass rush. In his latest mock draft, Buscaglia projects the Bills trading up in the first round to select Boston College edge rusher at No. 26 overall.

Buscaglia noted, “The Lions at No. 28 were eyeing an edge rusher, so the Bills packaged one of their Day 3 picks to move up with the Rams and lock in top star, a defensive end who fits their needs perfectly.”

He added, “This pick allows the Bills to capitalize on a deep edge rusher class by landing a strong value late in the first round.”

While trading up for an edge defender might raise questions following the addition of Joey Bosa, Bosa’s injury history and short-term one-year deal leave uncertainty about his future role opposite Gregory Rousseau.

Ezeiruaku, who tallied just 13.5 sacks over his first three seasons at Boston College, broke out with 16.5 sacks in 2024, ranking among the nation’s leaders.

His draft stock further climbed after an impressive NFL Combine showing, where he posted a 35.5-inch vertical jump, a 9’11” broad jump, and 22 bench press reps. His athleticism was also apparent in agility drills, running a 6.94-second 3-cone and a 4.19-second 20-yard shuttle.

While Ezeiruaku is slightly undersized and has occasionally struggled against powerful offensive linemen in the run game, his polished pass-rush skill set makes him a strong rotational piece in 2025 with the potential to develop into a long-term starter.
