Official Deal: Red Sox All In On Four-Time All-Star

While most teams are focused on the upcoming 2025 season, clubs across the league — with the exception of the Toronto Blue Jays — have reason to look ahead to next offseason following news from one of MLB’s premier hitters. Four-time All-Star and Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter shared an update on his free agency plans, stating that he’s open to speaking with any team once he hits the market after the 2025 campaign. He even mentioned he’s not ruling out a conversation with the New York Yankees.

One team determined to prevent that scenario is the Boston Red Sox. Not only should they aim to block the Yankees from landing a superstar, but they also have a chance to add one to their own roster. The Red Sox are in a prime position to pursue Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and make him a key piece of their lineup. With current first baseman Triston Casas signed on just a one-year, $800,000 deal, Guerrero could seamlessly step into the role for the 2026 season.

Last year, Guerrero posted impressive defensive numbers at first base in 121 games, recording 873 putouts, 70 assists, 90 double plays, and committing 10 errors. Offensively, he was just as strong, playing in 159 games and slashing .323/.396/.544. He totaled 98 runs, 199 hits, 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, 72 walks, and 96 strikeouts — his best production since his All-Star campaign in 2021.

A Red Sox infield featuring Guerrero at first, Alex Bregman at second, and Rafael Devers at third would form one of the most formidable units in decades, rivaling even the powerhouse lineup assembled by the Los Angeles Dodgers. While Boston has its sights set on making a postseason push this year, their front office should already be eyeing the offseason with Guerrero at the top of their wish list.
