The Buffalo Bills may be seeing top star more often next season.
The former No. 1 receiver for Buffalo has entered free agency after spending last year with the Houston Texans. According to The Athletic’s Chad Graff, he is now visiting a rising contender within the AFC East.
“Top veteran, a 10-year veteran and former All-Pro with six 1,000-yard seasons, is in Foxborough, Mass., meeting with the Patriots, a league source said. While no deal has been finalized, a signing could happen soon if both sides are satisfied,” Graff reported.
The Bills traded him to Houston last offseason, freeing up cap space and putting an end to the off-field issues tied to the star wideout.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye showed flashes of potential during his rookie campaign in 2024, despite the team’s offensive struggles. According to Graff, if Stefon Diggs were to sign with New England, he would instantly become Maye’s go-to target.
“The Patriots are in desperate need of wide receiver help. Right now, their top options are Kayshon Boutte, Kendrick Bourne, Demario Douglas, and Ja’Lynn Polk,” Graff wrote.
However, Diggs may not be ready to contribute right away. He tore his ACL in October, an injury that could keep him sidelined at the start of the 2025 season.
Before the injury, Diggs was productive for the Texans, tallying 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns. After the season, Houston voided the final year of his contract and chose not to re-sign him, making him a free agent.
While Diggs played a key role in helping Buffalo become a regular Super Bowl contender, his final season with the team was marred by controversy. He famously confronted quarterback Josh Allen on the sidelines during a playoff loss to the Bengals in 2023 and later posted cryptic messages on social media, hinting at dissatisfaction.
The situation escalated when Diggs was sent home from the first day of mandatory minicamp. Although the 2023 season went relatively smoothly, the Bills ultimately decided to move on from him the following offseason.

Bills May Need to Add Another Wide Receiver
The Bills shifted their offensive strategy in 2024 following the departures of Stefon Diggs and No. 2 receiver Gabe Davis, choosing to distribute the ball among a broader group of pass-catchers. The change proved effective, as Buffalo finished the season with one of the league’s top passing attacks. However, the team now heads into the offseason with several key needs to address.
Veteran wideout Amari Cooper, who was acquired at the trade deadline, has entered free agency, and there appears to be little momentum toward a return to Buffalo. The Bills also saw receiver and special teams standout Mack Hollins leave in free agency.
While Buffalo partially addressed the situation by signing wide receiver and return man Laviska Shenault Jr., more reinforcements will likely be needed via free agency or the upcoming NFL Draft.
