MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian recently predicted that Shaw could claim a major accolade in 2025, stating, “Matt Shaw will take home the NL Rookie of the Year Award.” While Shaw has a legitimate shot at winning the award, he’ll face stiff competition from other standout rookies, including Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki and Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews. A strong season from Shaw could provide a major lift to a Cubs franchise eager to return to the postseason for the first time since 2017.
