The Minnesota Vikings are currently weighing their options at quarterback. J.J. McCarthy appears to be a potential long-term solution, but both the front office and head coach Kevin O’Connell have also been considering the possibility of acquiring Aaron Rodgers. The question remains: do the Vikings truly see McCarthy as their future quarterback? If so, why not make the change to him now? Is it possible that Minnesota isn’t entirely convinced about McCarthy being the franchise quarterback? Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright recently offered a bold suggestion on this matter.
He proposed that the Vikings should trade McCarthy, along with a first-round pick, to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for quarterback Justin Herbert. During an appearance on FS1’s “First Things First,” Wright suggested, “The Vikings should reach out to the Chargers and say, ‘Hey, Jim Harbaugh, who called McCarthy the best quarterback he’s ever coached and the best in this draft, will give you him and our first-round pick in exchange for Justin Herbert.'”

Wright elaborated, explaining why such a trade could make sense. He pointed out that Herbert’s contract is tradable and that Kevin O’Connell may not be high on Sam Darnold, adding that Jim Harbaugh could benefit from working with a more affordable quarterback. Although this trade idea is speculative and likely just an entertaining offseason thought, it would certainly be intriguing to see Herbert play alongside Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison in Minnesota. Alternatively, the prospect of McCarthy reuniting with Harbaugh also adds an exciting element to the conversation.
