Bills signing ranked among worst free agent signings

According to Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team, the Buffalo Bills committed a mistake by signing Larry Ogunjobi to a one-year, fully guaranteed contract of $8.3 million. The Steelers released Ogunjobi on Tuesday, just before the start of free agency, despite having a lot of salary cap space. So, cap room was not an issue. It must have been ability. “The Pittsburgh Steelers released Larry Ogunjobi on Tuesday despite having a ton of cap space, which usually isn’t a good sign for a player,” Mosher told reporters. “However, it didn’t take long for Ogunjobi to find his next home, signing a deal with the Bills early on Wednesday morning.”

Ogunjobi is a player whose abilities have declined. He is a dedicated pass rusher who has not had many sacks over the years. “Ogunjobi has been a declining player for years and he’s always been a poor run defender,” Mosher told reporters. “He can be an adequate pass rusher at times, but even that part of his game has fallen off after recording just six sacks in the past three seasons.”

Ogunjobi should be a game changer for the Bills at his current salary. He needs to be the type of player that can line up next to Joey Bosa and make a tackle or sack when necessary. Mosher does not believe that is the case with Ogunjobi. “The Bills are paying Ogunjobi to be a starter, and that’s a mistake at this point in his career,” says Mosher. “He should be a rotational defensive tackle who is paid around the veteran minimum. This was a clear overpayment for a subpar player.
