With the Detroit Lions’ season now officially concluded, teams like the Las Vegas Raiders can proceed at full speed with their head coaching interviews involving Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.
For the Raiders, this could mean resolving their head coaching vacancy sooner than expected. It may not be a coincidence that the first general manager candidate they plan to interview is someone familiar with Johnson.
Las Vegas Raiders interviewing potential GM to pair with Ben Johnson
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Las Vegas Raiders are interviewing Washington Commanders assistant general manager Lance Newmark for their GM position. Newmark is a noteworthy candidate, having spent 26 years with the Detroit Lions before moving to Washington in 2024.
In other words, Newmark is well-acquainted with top coaching candidate Ben Johnson from their time together in Detroit. It’s quite possible that Johnson and Newmark are eager to collaborate and see Las Vegas as an ideal opportunity to advance their careers.
If Newmark’s interview goes well, we might soon hear news of the Raiders moving closer to an agreement with Johnson as their next head coach—a hire that would undoubtedly be seen as a major win.
