Spring training is in full swing as the Boston Red Sox prepare for the MLB regular season. Over the past week, several players have been sidelined due to illness, but there’s good news for Boston. According to WEEI’s Rob Bradford, top prospects Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony have returned to camp. Mayer could rejoin the lineup soon, while Anthony still needs more time before getting back on the field.
While Marcelo Mayer may not start the season with the Red Sox, he has been productive in his seven spring training games, posting a .588 slugging percentage with a home run and a triple. Roman Anthony, however, had a tougher battle with the flu going around camp, reportedly losing up to 10 pounds while recovering.

Manager Alex Cora has acknowledged uncertainty in the upcoming lineups as several players, including Triston Casas, Romy González, and Seby Zavala, were also sidelined last week due to illness. Despite the setback, Anthony—ranked as the No. 2 prospect in baseball—has a strong chance to make an impact for Boston this season. Losing weight from illness isn’t an ideal start to his potential rookie campaign, but at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, he should have no trouble regaining his strength.
