UW Huskies starting cornerback is transferring to North Carolina, as reported by On3 reporter Hayes Fawcett on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after Fawcett’s post, Dixon shared a photo on social media with a caption that read, “Thank you UW. I love y’all forever.”
Dixon is the fourth player from UW to join 2024 defensive coordinator Steve Belichick at North Carolina. The others are freshman linebacker Khmori House, freshman safety Peyton Waters, and freshman wide receiver Jason Robinson Jr. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports that Belichick is expected to serve as UNC’s defensive coordinator under his father, Bill Belichick, who became the Tar Heels’ head coach last month.
Ranked No. 9 overall in the transfer portal and the No. 2 cornerback by On3, Dixon had a standout senior season. He started all 12 regular-season games for the Huskies, recording an interception, 11 pass breakups, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus also noted that he allowed only 24 completions on 51 targets, for a completion rate of 47.1%, which ranked 32nd among 223 cornerbacks with at least 300 coverage snaps.
A Los Angeles native, Dixon spent two seasons at Long Beach City College before transferring to UW. Over two seasons with the Huskies, he totaled two interceptions, 18 pass breakups, and a forced fumble in 27 games.
Dixon’s college career was originally set to end after the 2024 season, but a blanket NCAA waiver on Dec. 23 granted extra eligibility to former junior-college athletes, including Dixon, following a federal court ruling in favor of Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, who challenged NCAA eligibility rules.
Dixon’s transfer follows UW head coach Jedd Fisch’s reported commitment of Arizona transfer cornerback Tacario Davis, who was ranked the top corner in the portal. This would have created a highly competitive cornerback group at UW, with Davis, Dixon, and returning starter Ephesians Prysock, who played alongside Davis at Arizona in 2023 when Fisch was the Wildcats’ head coach.
