Breaking News: Red Wings Acquires Another Highly Versatile Veteran Star In Blockbuster

The Detroit Red Wings acquired a 2025 fourth-round pick by helping facilitate a trade that sent center Yanni Gourde from the Seattle Kraken to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Seattle traded Gourde to Detroit in exchange for defense prospect Kyle Aucoin. The Red Wings then sent Gourde to Tampa Bay for a conditional fourth-round pick. Detroit will receive the higher of Tampa Bay’s or Edmonton’s fourth-round selections in 2025.

As part of the deal, the Red Wings retained 25% of Gourde’s remaining contract ($1.291 million of his $5.1 million cap hit). Gourde is in the final year of his contract, and Detroit had ample cap space, around $13 million, to accommodate the move.

Earlier, the Red Wings had traded their own 2025 fourth-round pick to Anaheim in the deal that sent Robby Fabbri to the Ducks. With this latest move, Detroit now holds nine picks in the 2025 draft, including its own selections in the first three rounds, an extra third-rounder from the Rangers, the newly acquired fourth-round pick, and multiple later-round selections.

Aucoin, a sixth-round pick by Detroit in 2020 (156th overall), is currently a senior at Harvard.
