The Boston Red Sox are reportedly interested in securing a long-term contract with top prospect before he even steps onto an MLB field. The 20-year-old outfielder is viewed as a potential franchise cornerstone, with some analysts predicting he could be an MVP-caliber player in the future.
According to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, the Red Sox have expressed interest in discussing an extension with him this spring. While it’s uncommon for a team to offer such a deal to a prospect before their major league debut, it wouldn’t be unprecedented. Last year, the Milwaukee Brewers signed highly regarded prospect Jackson Chourio to an eight-year, $82 million contract before he reached the big leagues.
Despite the speculation, top star remains focused on his development. “I haven’t really thought about it much,” he told Speier. “Right now, my goal is to make the team. I don’t want anything distracting me from that.”
While financial security is an appealing factor, Anthony made it clear that he’s in no rush to sign an extension. He expressed his love for the Red Sox organization and his desire to stay long-term but emphasized that any deal would have to be a “no-brainer.”
“I value myself very highly,” Anthony said. “I want to be a Red Sox for as long as possible, but if a deal doesn’t make complete sense, I’m just going to focus on improving and let everything else take care of itself.”
For now, Anthony remains committed to his development, knowing that if he continues to progress, he’ll have opportunities to maximize his value in the future.
