JUST IN: Boston Bruins coach offers key update on injured captain Brad Marchand

The Bruins will be missing Brad Marchand for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

Interim coach Joe Sacco indicated that while Marchand traveled with the squad from Pittsburgh, he will not be available against Minnesota.

“There’s really nothing to report yet,” Sacco told reporters before the 3:30 p.m. puck drop. “He is out today. He’ll be evaluated when we return to Boston.”

Marchand is struggling with an upper-body injury sustained just 5:56 into Boston’s eventual 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, when he was whacked from behind by P.O. Joseph. Marchand collided with the boards at an odd position and remained down for many minutes before being taken off the ice.

There was no penalty during the play.

Georgii Merkulov will replace Marchand on the left wing, with Elias Lindholm and Charlie Coyle as linemates.

The Bruins are already short-handed, with Trent Frederic (lower body), Charlie McAvoy (shoulder), and Hampus Lindholm (lower body) all out.
