SAD NEWS: New York Rangers confirm another mind-blowing setback after major injury confirmed

The New York Rangers suffered a significant setback with the injury to 27-year-old star, which has been announced. The Norris Trophy-winning defenseman has been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury, sidelining him for at least seven days per IR rules. While he is expected to miss time, there is optimism that he could return before the season ends.

The Jericho, New York native sustained the injury after a collision with the New York Islanders’ Kyle MacLean, leaving the ice while holding his shoulder. Despite the setback, the Rangers secured a 5-1 victory over their rivals, though losing Fox is a major blow to their defensive lineup.

Adam Fox has spent his entire six-year NHL career with the Rangers, recording five goals and 43 assists for 48 points in 58 games this season. The 27-year-old boasts a Corsi For percentage of 57.7 and a relative Corsi of 14.4. Over his career, he has tallied 58 goals and 298 assists for 356 points in 415 games. Originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the third round (66th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, he was later traded to the Carolina Hurricanes before ultimately landing in New York. A three-time NHL All-Star, Fox won the Norris Trophy in 2020-21.

Impact of Fox’s Injury

Losing Fox is a major blow for the Rangers, who are currently two points outside the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. To make matters worse, defenseman K’Andre Miller also suffered an injury in the same game, though there has been no update on his status.

These injuries could influence general manager Chris Drury’s trade deadline strategy. Ryan Lindgren, who was previously rumored to be a trade candidate, may now be retained to provide defensive depth. In response to Fox’s absence, the Rangers have called up Matthew Robertson from the AHL to help fill the gap as they push forward without one of their key blueliners.
