Breaking; Done Deal: Bills Completes An Intriguing Deal For A Highly Experienced Pass Rusher

After witnessing the Philadelphia Eagles overpower the Kansas City Chiefs in the trenches during Super Bowl LIX, the Buffalo Bills may look to bolster their defensive line through free agency and the draft.

While trade targets like Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby, and Trey Hendrickson are worth monitoring, an NFL insider at the Scouting Combine reported that the Bills are among three teams showing interest in a recently released veteran pass rusher.

According to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, Buffalo is interested in signing top veteran pass rusher.

“Former Steelers edge rusher, who was released as a cap casualty a few weeks ago, is drawing significant interest at the combine,” Pauline reported. “Three teams, most notably the Bills, have expressed a desire to sign him once free agency opens. It would be a strong fit, as Buffalo needs depth at pass rusher, and Smith wants to finish his career with a playoff contender.”

Smith, 32, was traded to the Steelers at last season’s deadline in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Packers. He recorded two sacks in eight games with Pittsburgh and finished the season with 4.5 sacks combined between the two teams.

Over his career, Smith has amassed 70.5 sacks, with his best season coming in 2019 when he notched 12. He has reached at least eight sacks in six of his 10 NFL seasons.

As Pauline noted, Smith would primarily serve as a depth addition, similar to Buffalo’s signing of Dawuane Smoot last offseason on a one-year deal.
