The New York Jets are heading into an offseason where a significant portion of the roster could be overhauled. With Aaron Rodgers possibly nearing retirement, the team appears poised to begin another rebuild.
Latest mock draft has Jets selecting DL Mason Graham
There are still many uncertainties regarding the Jets’ direction heading into the NFL Draft. Aside from quarterback, they have several areas that need improvement, and they could use their first-round pick to select one of the top defensive linemen in the class.
In a recent mock draft, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler had the Jets picking Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham with the No. 7 overall pick:
“The Jets are another team in a state of uncertainty due to questions at quarterback. However, the roster has numerous other needs, including along the defensive line. Graham isn’t particularly long, but he has a high floor in the NFL due to his ability to break down blocks and impact both the run and pass,” Brugler wrote.
Graham was among the top players at his position this past season, recording 3.5 sacks, nine quarterback hits, and 20 hurries. Pro Football Focus gave him an impressive 90.9 grade for his performance in the 2024 season.
Graham can help fix a lot of the Jets’ defensive problems
The Jets are in desperate need of upgrades on the defensive front, as last season’s group struggled with both run defense and tackling. Only edge rusher Eric Watts received a PFF grade in the 70s on the Jets’ defensive line.
The team allowed 2,059 rushing yards and gave up 23.8 points per game last season. Graham could address many of these issues with his elite skill set, particularly in run protection, and could significantly improve the overall defense.
With numerous decisions to make this offseason, Graham may be a key piece in helping the Jets take a step closer to competing at a higher level in 2025.
