Just In: Red Wings Confirms Major Trade For Another Veteran Star

On Monday night, the Red Wings revealed that goaltender is being traded to Anaheim in exchange for future considerations. The 30-year-old netminder is in the final year of his contract, which carries a $4.75 million AAV.

I honestly expected this move to happen much sooner. The reality is that he has been inconsistent and, at times, disappointing at both the AHL and NHL levels. Add in his injury history, and, well, it was fun while it lasted—let’s just leave it at that.

From Detroit’s perspective, I like the move. Shedding around $3.6 million in cap space for virtually nothing is a win. With Alex Lyon and Cam Talbot stabilizing the goaltending situation, a fresh start is probably the best outcome for Husso.

With the NHL trade deadline approaching, Steve Yzerman now has a little more financial flexibility. The question is—does this trade signal a bigger move ahead, or is it just a coincidence?
