Ground-breaking News: Blockbuster Trade Ships Steelers Super Bowl MVP & Pro Bowl QB

The Pittsburgh Steelers made headlines last offseason by acquiring quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Now, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton suggests they could form another high-profile duo—key star and Cooper Kupp.

Moton proposed a trade in which the Steelers would send three 2025 draft picks—a second, fourth, and fifth-rounder—to the Rams in exchange for the Super Bowl-winning pair.

“At this point in his career, with retirement on the horizon, Stafford may not command a first-round pick,” Moton wrote. “The Rams could include Kupp in the deal to secure additional draft capital, especially since they already plan to move on from him.”

For the Steelers, this move could provide a temporary solution to their struggles at quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement in 2021, as well as bolster their wide receiver corps.

“Stafford and Kupp may be short-term options, but they’re a worthwhile gamble for a team aiming to make a deep playoff run,” Moton added. “Pittsburgh could also structure Stafford’s contract to recover money if he retires within a year or two.”

During the 2024 season, Stafford led the Rams to a 10-6 record in 16 starts, throwing for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions with a 65.8% completion rate. He also earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2023.

Stafford and Kupp played pivotal roles in the Rams’ 2021 Super Bowl victory, with Kupp earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

Could Steelers Land Matthew Stafford & Cooper Kupp?

Analysts have previously linked Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp to the Steelers in separate trade scenarios. However, Moe Moton suggested Pittsburgh acquire both players in a single deal.

Over the past four seasons, Stafford and Kupp have developed a strong connection. Kupp’s best NFL season came in 2021—Stafford’s first year with the Rams—when he led the league with 145 receptions, 1,947 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns. He capped off that campaign with an eight-catch, 92-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Super Bowl.

Acquiring Stafford and Kupp would strengthen two key positions for the Steelers’ offense. In particular, Pittsburgh could benefit from adding another reliable wide receiver to complement George Pickens.
