Breaking: Steelers Completes deal For Another Highly Experienced Star

Mark Kaboly Predicts top satr Will Re-Sign With Steelers, While Justin Fields Seeks a Bigger Payday Elsewhere

With the new NFL league year approaching in two weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers are nearing a decision on their quarterback situation. Although nothing is official, beat reporter Mark Kaboly now predicts that veteran star will remain the team’s starter for the 2025 season.

During KDKA’s  #1 Cochran Sports Show, host Bob Pompeani asked panelists to predict Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback next season. Kaboly agreed with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Jason Mackey, who picked Wilson. “I think I agree with him,” Kaboly said. “I think Justin’s gonna find more money, more opportunity, a better place somewhere else.”

This marks a shift from Kaboly’s stance on February 14, when he still believed Fields had the edge and referred to Wilson as “Plan B,” despite Steelers owner Art Rooney II reportedly favoring Wilson. Kaboly may still hold that view but now sees Fields leaving for a better opportunity. As an unrestricted free agent who won’t be franchise-tagged, Fields has the freedom to sign with any team. If another organization offers more money or a more appealing roster, he could leave Pittsburgh when free agency begins on March 12.

The upcoming NFL Combine will provide a clearer picture of Fields’ market value. With coaches, general managers, and agents gathering in Indianapolis, early free agency discussions will take place, even if unofficial. While some rumors will prove inaccurate, others will materialize—just as they did in 2022 when the Steelers’ signing of Mitch Trubisky became widely expected before the league year officially began.

Meanwhile, another panelist, 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi, predicted that the Steelers’ 2025 starter would be Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Reports indicate that the Rams have given Stafford permission to explore his trade value, signaling potential movement, though it’s not yet an official request.

Ultimately, Kaboly believes Fields’ departure is increasingly likely, leaving Wilson as the Steelers’ most probable quarterback for 2025.
