The Boston Red Sox may be facing a brewing dilemma. After signing superstar infielder Alex Bregman last week, rumors suggest that top star is unhappy about potentially shifting from third base to designated hitter to make room for Bregman. While the situation hasn’t escalated yet, there’s a scenario where it spirals out of control, possibly leading his to request a trade as soon as this season. Though unlikely, it remains a growing possibility.
FanSided’s Christopher Kline recently named the Philadelphia Phillies as a potential landing spot if the Red Sox explore a trade for top star. “It feels like next offseason is when Philly might try to engineer another marquee addition, but we can never count out Dave Dombrowski when a big-ticket player hits the market,” Kline wrote. “The Phillies are in an active arms race with Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York in a highly competitive National League. Stacking Devers behind Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper would go a long way toward cementing the Phils as true top-tier contenders.”
Philadelphia has reportedly shown interest in both Bregman and trade target Nolan Arenado. The Phillies have also been open to moving All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm, which could be a potential trade piece in a deal for Devers. However, questions remain about whether their farm system is deep enough to pull off such a move.
