High school recruiting is back in full force as the focus shifts away from the transfer portal, which is closed until April. With winter workouts, spring practices, and high school recruiting on the agenda, the Auburn football coaching staff is working hard to secure talent.
A key target for the Tigers is 5-star edge rusher Zion Elee. Hailing from Baltimore, Elee is ranked the #2 edge rusher and the #2 overall recruit in Maryland, according to 247 Sports’ Composite Ranking. Though Elee committed to Maryland in early December, his recruitment is far from settled.
As a top-tier recruit, Elee is fielding interest from numerous schools, and Maryland will need to work hard to retain his commitment until next December when he signs. Auburn, however, remains a strong contender for the highly-rated edge rusher.
Elee attends St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, a school that has already sent three recruits to Auburn in the 2025 class: cornerback Blake Woodby, linebacker Bryce Deas, and defensive lineman Darrion Smith. Additionally, 3-star safety Wayne Henry from St. Frances committed to Auburn’s 2026 class in August.

Henry is set to attend Auburn’s Junior Day at the end of the month, and Elee is expected to join him, along with teammate Jireh Edwards, a 4-star uncommitted safety. Elee had initially planned to visit Oregon on January 24, but his trip to Auburn on January 25 might alter those plans. He also has a visit scheduled to Georgia in February.
Although Elee has reaffirmed his commitment to Maryland ahead of the Polynesian Bowl, his upcoming visit to Auburn—a school with strong ties to his high school—could provide a sense of familiarity on campus. With a long way to go until signing day, Auburn is hopeful it can convince Elee to sign with the Tigers.
