Just In: Phillies are now making big move with 2x All-Star

During the 2022 MLB offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies made a major move by signing star slugger Kyle Schwarber to a four-year, $79 million contract. This came after he hit 32 home runs, drove in 71 RBIs, and posted a .266 batting average across 113 games with the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox in 2021. The signing has proven to be a great decision for the Phillies, as Schwarber has delivered impressive offensive production, tallying 131 home runs and 302 RBIs over 465 games in three seasons. Last season alone, he recorded 38 home runs, 104 RBIs, and a .248 batting average.

Now entering the final year of his contract, speculation has grown about a possible extension. While speaking with The Athletic’s Matt Gelb, Schwarber expressed his openness to staying in Philadelphia long-term.

Kyle Schwarber Press Conference

“I know there’s interest on our side,” he said. “We’ll see what happens throughout this camp—if they approach us and we get deeper and deeper into discussions. I’ve always enjoyed my time here.”

Considering Schwarber’s elite power and consistent production, it would make sense for the Phillies to explore keeping him beyond this season. While it remains to be seen if both sides can agree on an extension, it’s clear the two-time All-Star is interested in staying.
