While the transfer portal activity has slowed, the college football coaching carousel remains in full swing—and Washington has been right at the center of it. Head coach Jedd Fisch continued to build his staff, reportedly hiring J.P. Losman as an assistant quarterbacks coach and Michael Brewster as an assistant offensive line coach. Additionally, former Bellevue High standout Marcus Griffin will join the Huskies as their director of recruiting, according to his social media posts.
Losman and Brewster are not among the 11 UW coaches with off-campus recruiting privileges, similar to new special teams coordinator Chris Petrilli. Meanwhile, Washington is still searching for a linebackers coach after Robert Bala left to become Florida’s co-defensive coordinator on Feb. 5.
Both Losman and Brewster bring notable playing experience to UW. Losman was the 22nd overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills after playing quarterback at Tulane. His NFL career spanned eight years, though it was marred by injuries and organizational instability. He finished his career as a backup for several teams, including a one-year stint with the Seahawks in 2010—coinciding with Fisch’s tenure as Seattle’s quarterbacks coach. Losman transitioned into coaching in 2017 as a student assistant at Clemson under Dabo Swinney, later serving as an offensive analyst and senior offensive analyst. He followed Brent Venables to Oklahoma in 2022, working in player personnel before being hired by Washington for an on-field coaching role, where he will assist quarterbacks coach and newly promoted offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty.

Brewster also has connections to Fisch from his playing days. The former Ohio State captain, who earned first-team All-Big Ten and All-American consideration in 2010, played center for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013 when Fisch was their offensive coordinator. After ending his NFL career with the Saints in 2014, Brewster began coaching in 2017 at the high school level before transitioning to college. He held roles at Western Michigan, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, and Tennessee State before serving as Valparaiso’s offensive line coach last season. At UW, he will assist Michael Switzer, who was recently promoted following Brennan Carroll’s sudden departure on Feb. 3.
Griffin, meanwhile, returns to the Pacific Northwest after working as Cal’s assistant director of player personnel under Justin Wilcox. A three-time WIAA Class 3A state champion at Bellevue, he played college football at Arizona and Central Michigan. He replaces Josh Omura, who left to become Arizona State’s director of player personnel on Jan. 29. Washington may still have another opening on its recruiting staff after Armond “Mondo” Hawkins Jr. followed former UW defensive coordinator Steve Belichick to North Carolina. Griffin will now work under Washington’s director of player personnel, Matt Doherty.
