GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — Former University of Florida head football coach has solidified his legacy among the greatest in college football history. On Wednesday, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced Meyer’s election to the College Football Hall of Fame, a prestigious honor recognizing his incredible contributions to the sport.
Meyer, who helmed the Florida Gators from 2005 to 2010, becomes the 14th individual associated with the Gators and the fifth Florida coach to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. His tenure at Florida was nothing short of legendary, highlighted by two national championships (2006, 2008), two Southeastern Conference titles, and three SEC Eastern Division crowns. Meyer also led the team to six consecutive January bowl games, including three BCS appearances, cementing the Gators as a dominant force in college football during his era.
The 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially enshrined at the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner in Las Vegas on December 9. Meyer’s inclusion marks another milestone for the Florida football program, which has long celebrated its rich tradition of excellence. His success with the Gators set the stage for the team’s enduring legacy and further elevated the prominence of SEC football on the national stage.
Meyer’s impact extends beyond his wins and championships. His ability to develop players, most notably Tim Tebow—a Heisman Trophy winner and future Hall of Fame candidate—left an indelible mark on college football. As fans and former players celebrate Meyer’s induction, it’s clear his influence on the game and the Gators will be felt for generations to come.
