Former Carolina Panthers quarterback is raising a bit of a stir when video surfaced of him on former Colorado great Travis Hunter’s podcast about maybe being the first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
In the video, Cam Newton states that when he joined the Panthers, “it was a locker room full of losers.”
“My issue was that I went to a locker room full of losers who didn’t know how to win. “Guys didn’t know how to prepare; it was a culture shock for me,” Newton explained. “The games don’t mean as much in the league as you might think. “It’s only money.”
Newton stated that he wants to be No. 1 overall.
However, one Carolina icon, wide receiver Steve Smith Jr., was not pleased with what Newton had to say.
Smith responded on X, writing, “53 man locker room -1 = 52 losers.” Wow…breaking news for 89!
The former Panther receiver goes on to claim that he is extremely unhappy with Newton’s comments on his previous team.
The Panthers selected Newton first overall in the 2011 NFL Draft after he won the Heisman Trophy, went 14-0, and led the Tigers to a national championship.
The former Auburn quarterback joins a squad that was only two years removed from being 12-4 before having an 8-8 record and a 2-14 record, which won them the top choice for the 2011 draft.
