Is Kyle Schwarber Skeptical About Super Bowl LIX; Major Updates Ahead Of Game Day Causing Mixed Reactions

With spring training just around the corner, the focus in Philadelphia is briefly shifting from baseball to football. Before the Phillies’ pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater, Florida, the city’s attention is locked on the big event: Super Bowl LIX. The Philadelphia Eagles are set for a highly anticipated rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs, a showdown that’s reigniting memories of Super Bowl LVII from two years ago.

As Eagles fever sweeps through Philly, Phillies slugger has been showing his support. While participating in the WM Phoenix Open Pro-Am, Schwarber was spotted wearing an A.J. Brown Eagles jersey, which he later gifted to an ecstatic Eagles fan, adding to the city’s excitement ahead of the big game.

Kyle Schwarber was also caught on camera sharing his thoughts on Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.

“Just an animal,” Schwarber said when asked what comes to mind when watching Barkley play. “The guy’s a beast and he’s all business, that’s a cool thing. So, I want him to keep it going.”

Schwarber’s enthusiasm reflects the electric atmosphere in Philadelphia as the city rallies behind the Eagles ahead of their Super Bowl LIX clash with the Chiefs.

Kyle Schwarber not the only Phillie repping the Eagles ahead of Super Bowl LIX

Kyle Schwarber wasn’t the only Phillie showing support for the Eagles this week. Second baseman Bryson Stott was spotted wearing an Eagles hat during an appearance on MLB Network on Friday, proudly repping the Birds.

Meanwhile, Phillies manager Rob Thomson shared on The Phillies Show podcast that players already in Clearwater for spring training are planning to gather and watch the big game together on Sunday. Catcher J.T. Realmuto echoed the team spirit during his recent interview on the podcast with hosts Todd Zolecki, Ruben Amaro Jr., and Jim Salisbury, declaring that the Eagles are the team to cheer for.

With Super Bowl LIX just around the corner, it’s clear that Eagles fever is alive and well throughout the Phillies clubhouse.

Kyle Schwarber, the Phillies’ designated hitter and leadoff man, made headlines earlier this week with comments about his contract situation and potential lineup changes for the upcoming season. Entering the final year of his four-year, $79 million deal, the soon-to-be 32-year-old expressed his desire to remain in Philadelphia long-term, adding that he hopes to discuss a contract extension with the team during spring training.

That’s music to the ears of Phillies fans, who would love to see Schwarber stick around beyond 2025. Hopefully, the team can work out an extension before the season gets underway.

With manager Rob Thomson considering different lineup configurations this spring, Schwarber also shared his openness to moving out of the leadoff spot if needed. As a veteran leader in the clubhouse, his focus remains on the team’s success rather than personal preferences.

“I’m going to do what they tell me to do,” Schwarber told Kyle Odegard of Sports Talk Philly. “For us, it’s all about trying to find the best possible way to win a game. No one has a personal attachment to where they hit. They just go out there wherever their name is written, and they go hit. If we feel like that’s the best lineup, we’re going to do it, and wherever I hit that day, I’m going to do it to my best ability.”

While Phillies fans eagerly await the start of spring training, all eyes in Philadelphia are on Super Bowl LIX this weekend. The Eagles will aim for their second Super Bowl title in franchise history when they face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Kickoff is set for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Go Birds!
