SCHOCK!!!: Washington Huskies Receives Another Major Blow After Losing Coach

After offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll’s exit, one of Washington’s top commits in the 2026 recruiting class,  has decided to reopen his recruitment. A 247Sports composite four-star offensive lineman from Draper, Utah, announced on social media Wednesday that he is decommitting from Washington. The 6-foot-4, 305-pound lineman initially committed to the Huskies on November 25.

He is known for his impressive physicality, heavy hands, and advanced technique. He was evaluated by 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins in September, who praised his strong lower body and lateral movement, calling him a national recruit. His decision to decommit follows the departure of Brennan Carroll, who also coached the offensive line and left for the Las Vegas Raiders. Following Carroll’s exit, UW coach Jedd Fisch promoted Michael Switzer to offensive line coach and named Jimmie Dougherty the new offensive coordinator.

Ranked No. 5 in Utah and No. 15 among interior offensive linemen nationwide, Tafa had been the Huskies’ second-highest ranked recruit in the 2026 class. He holds offers from several top programs, including Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, BYU, California, Iowa State, Miami, Michigan State, Oregon, Utah, and Washington State.

With Tafa’s decommitment, Washington currently has five pledges in its 2026 recruiting class. Composite four-star running back Ansu Sanoe, Washington’s only blue-chip recruit at this point, is joined by composite three-star linebacker Wassie Lugolobi, athlete Terrance Saryon, and offensive lineman Ah Deong Yang. Kicker CJ Wallace rounds out the class. Despite early struggles on the offensive line in 2024, Washington signed six offensive linemen in its 2025 class, including top recruits Champ Taulealea, Jack Shaffer, John Mills, Jake Flores, Lowen Colman-Brusa, and Peter Langi. The team also added veterans Carver Willis and Geirean Hatchett through the transfer portal.

However, there has already been some attrition, as 6-5, 330-pound offensive lineman Langi announced he would be transferring to Arizona instead. He had previously been slated to join Washington in 2025, but it was reported in early January that he would not be part of the Huskies’ class. Langi, originally from San Bruno, California, will join his brother Michael, who is committed to Arizona for the 2026 class.

Despite these changes, Washington’s offensive line remains solid with a group of talented freshmen. Taulealea, Shaffer, Mills, and Flores are all enrolled for the winter quarter and expected to contribute.
