JUST IN: Giants Are Now Finalizing Deal to Sign New Quarterback, Fans Already Buzzing

With the NFL offseason approaching, the New York Giants are exploring all possible quarterback options, and one fan-favorite idea has been trading for New England Patriots backup QB Joe Milton.

Until recently, it was unclear whether the Patriots would even consider moving Milton, who was drafted in 2024. However, his availability is now starting to seem like a real possibility.

“I initially thought the Patriots would wait at least another year before entertaining a trade for Joe Milton, who was a sixth-round pick (193rd overall) last year,” Boston Sports Journal reporter Greg A. Bedard said on January 30. “But there’s growing belief around the league that they’re at least contemplating it this offseason. That’s not to say he’s officially on the trade block, but once the team settles its front office and coaching situation, it could be an option.”

Bedard also explained why New England might be reconsidering its stance.

“The main reason? Timing,” he noted. “This year’s QB draft class is weak, and the Senior Bowl quarterbacks were underwhelming. The Patriots might capitalize on Milton’s strong showing in the season finale and trade him while his value is high.

If the Giants pursue Milton, they would likely pair him with either a rookie or a veteran free agent, depending on their overall strategy for the position.

Bedard suggested that Milton could fetch as much as a 2025 third-round pick, based on conversations with league executives.

“Would you rather draft someone like Riley Leonard (Notre Dame), Dillon Gabriel (Oregon), or Jaxson Dart (Mississippi)—all of whom have certain limitations—or take a chance on Milton, who has elite physical traits, promising NFL tape, and has shown he can be coached and improve?” Bedard asked.

For Giants GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, the key question is determining the best long-term quarterback strategy. If they see potential in Milton’s dual-threat ability, parting with a third-round pick may not be a dealbreaker.

Giants Fans React to Joe Milton Trade

On January 31, Empire Sports Media’s Anthony Rivardo posed a question on X about a possible Milton trade.

“Joe Milton has elite physical tools, athleticism, and one of the strongest arms in the NFL. Showed some promise in Week 18 but still needs time to develop. Would you want the Giants to trade a mid-to-late-round pick to take a flier on him?” he asked.

Fan reactions were mixed, though many were open to the idea at the right price.

“Yes, Milton should be considered if the Giants miss out on top QB options,” one fan wrote. “Milton plus a veteran QB would make sense for a bridge year.”

Another fan was more skeptical: “For a sixth-rounder, maybe. But as a Michigan fan, I have a low opinion of him. Incredible arm strength, but he struggled at both Michigan and Tennessee.”

A third suggested: “Yes, but pair him with Jimmy Garoppolo and use him in red-zone and short-yardage situations.”

Meanwhile, another commented, “I’d be open to it, but I’m currently more interested in Jaxson Dart.”

One final fan questioned the overall QB plan: “Does this mean they’d draft a QB early, sign a veteran, and trade for Milton? Or would they skip drafting a QB altogether?”

While opinions vary, there’s clear intrigue among Giants fans about the possibility of bringing Milton to New York.
