There are many ways to measure success for a college football program and its head coach, with wins and championships being the ultimate indicators. However, another key sign of success is how well former players perform in the NFL.
In recent years, few programs have seen as much success in the NFL as Georgia. While the players themselves deserve much of the credit for their individual success, Kirby Smart and the entire Georgia football program also deserve recognition. They played a significant role in developing and preparing these players for the next level, contributing to Georgia’s growing reputation for producing NFL talent.
Georgia received well-deserved recognition for its NFL success during the Senior Bowl this past week. Senior Bowl Director Jim Nagy praised Kirby Smart and the Georgia program, saying, “I don’t have anymore respect for any program in the country than Kirby’s. He’s built an unbelievably competitive program, you know what you’re getting.” This statement highlights the consistent excellence Georgia has achieved under Smart’s leadership and its ability to develop top-tier talent that translates to success at the next level.
Smart deserves this recognition
Jim Nagy’s praise of Georgia and Kirby Smart carries significant weight, especially considering his close proximity to NFL prospects. For Nagy to say that no program has prepared its players for the NFL better than Georgia speaks volumes about the program’s impact under Smart’s leadership. While many contribute to this success, Smart deserves much of the credit as the head of the program.
As the one making key decisions—such as recruiting, coaching staff selection, and game strategy—Smart’s vision and leadership have been integral to Georgia’s success in developing players who are ready for the next level. If Georgia is indeed the best at preparing players for the NFL, Smart’s role in that achievement is undeniable.
It was no surprise that Georgia’s five participants in this year’s Senior Bowl performed exceptionally well on Saturday. With the way Georgia players have been developing under Smart, it’s likely that these Bulldogs, and others in the NFL, will continue to find success at the professional level.
