The Minnesota Vikings’ offseason moves have stirred plenty of discussion, and it looks like their strategy is unfolding as planned — something that doesn’t always happen during free agency. Now, they might get another shot at a previous target: Jack Jones.
Jones, originally selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2022 draft, played the 2024 season with the Las Vegas Raiders. After failing to trade him, the Raiders have released him.
“#Raiders are releasing CB Jack Jones, sources say, after Las Vegas attempted to trade him,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on April 6 via X. “An intriguing option for a CB-needy team.”
Jones, 27, had a breakout 2024 campaign, tallying career highs in tackles (69), pass breakups (16), and interceptions (3). Known for his ball-hawking ability, he now has 7 career picks, four of which he’s returned for touchdowns.
Vikings Previously Interested in Jones
The Vikings were already interested in Jones back in 2023 when he was waived by the Patriots. Myles Gorham of “Climb The Pocket” mentioned on April 6 that Minnesota put in a claim for Jones at that time, adding he’s curious to see if they’ll pursue him again now that he’s available.
Another account, VikingzFanPage, echoed that sentiment: “Minnesota’s interest in Jones dates back to his draft year. Keep an eye on this one.”
Jones was entering the final season of his four-year, $4.4 million deal, with $3.1 million in total earnings to date. According to Over The Cap, the Vikings still have $17.1 million in cap space after investing heavily in their offensive and defensive lines this offseason.

Crowded Cornerback Room, But Still Room for Moves?
Despite their interest, Minnesota might not have a clear spot open for Jones. Head coach Kevin O’Connell praised the team’s current cornerback group, highlighting Isaiah Rodgers as someone they believe can make a big impact.
“I think he’s got the ability to make plays on the football… I see Isaiah being an every-down, impact guy,” O’Connell said on April 1. He noted the team’s CB group is “pretty full” at the moment, and any additions may hinge on injuries or draft outcomes.
The Vikings struggled with injuries in the secondary last season, finishing with Shaquill Griffin and Stephon Gilmore — both signed during the season — as key contributors. With both now free agents, Byron Murphy is currently the mainstay at corner.
Even with a crowded depth chart, Jack Jones could remain a name to watch if the Vikings look to bolster the position further during the offseason.
