Sad News: Vikings Confirm the Departure of Another Top Veteran as he Officially Finds New Home

The Minnesota Vikings still have a few distinct needs on their offseason roster, and while safety isn’t one of them, they are actively looking for cornerbacks.

Last November, the Minnesota Vikings gave up on 2022 second round draft pick Andrew Booth Jr., dealing the 24-year-old cornerback to Dallas in exchange for 2021 third round cornerback. Unfortunately, Booth did not make it through the Cowboys’ 2024 regular season. He was cut at the end of November.

Although he had a slightly longer stint with the Minnesota Vikings, it wasn’t by much. On Monday, the 26-year-old from Oregon State was released by the team, becoming a free agent. However, his time on the open market was short-lived.

Just a day after being released by the Vikings, Nahshon Wright has found a new team—and he’s staying in the NFC North. On Tuesday, Wright inked a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears.

Wright joined the Vikings during the 2023 preseason but saw limited action, appearing in just one game. He logged 15 special teams snaps in Week 13 against the Arizona Cardinals. Over his four-year NFL career, Wright has suited up for 33 games—32 of them with the Dallas Cowboys—and made three starts between 2021 and 2022.

So far, he’s totaled 37 tackles, one interception, and five pass breakups. With Wright gone, the Vikings have bolstered their cornerback group by re-signing Byron Murphy Jr. and adding Mekhi Blackmon, Najee Thompson, and free agents Isaiah Rodgers, Jeff Okudah, and Tavierre Thomas.
